Yup. On my first attempt using the version of Zinc 2.5 available at the Zinclabs I was able to not only get a swf from Flex builder 2 to compile but also able to embed a browser in the generated swf.
I have to hand it to the team at MDM. The version in the labs [...]

Lil Man’s Hospital Stay
June 29th, 2006 · 1 Comment
The last week before moving down to Miami my son was hospitalized for a week because he had cellulitis under his right eye. I was scared and the docs were worried that he was going to have to have a surgery that would compromise his vision but after a week of intravennous antibiotics his [...]

My First Flash Project Out in the Wild
June 22nd, 2006 · 3 Comments
It’s kind of a bittersweet moment for me. My baby that I built while at EyeWonder has been released in the wild. Meanwhile my alarm has been going off at 5:00 AM and I have been going through orientation on proper patient care, confidentiality and how not to manage a patient [...]

Article on JDJ:Does Adobe Flash need rebranding
June 15th, 2006 · No Comments
This article from the Java Developers Journal brings up an interesting and often mentioned point.
I think that adobe has started doing this already (referring to the AVM2) but I think just as changing the name of the Flash Player to Flash Player 9 sounds better than Flash Player 8.5. Calling the Virtual Machine [...]

Curious about what’s down the road for Flex 2 and PHP
June 15th, 2006 · No Comments
The open-source community has always been able to come up with tools that make using open-ource equivalents compelling. I have seen the tools that allow for rapid development of ColdFusion applications using Flex 2. I have to put the question in the atmosphere. Will there be similar tools for other server side [...]

Useful Eclipse tutorials
June 15th, 2006 · 1 Comment
I came across a set of excellent Eclipse tutorials at the Eclipsecon site. The one that I found to be particularly relevant to Actionscript development is the one titled 25 Eclipse Distilled: A Quick Start to Agile Development .(link to powerpoint). Although these tutorials are mainly Java and C++ centered they do provide [...]

Great Head First Books on the Horizon
June 15th, 2006 · No Comments
I’ve enjoyed Head First books. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a Head First PHP MySQL book…(those who have actively read head first books know what comes next). It’s true. I was skimming “Head Rush Ajax”-and I came across “Head First PHP MySQL” It’s not out yet but they mentioned it so it must [...]

Flex 2- Won’t it make it too easy?
June 8th, 2006 · 4 Comments
In the midst of my excitement about the productivity enhancements that will be provided by Flex 2 I was asked a question that gave me pause. “Won’t it make it too easy for those without the skills?”
My knee-jerk response was “Of course not!” I thought about it some more and I still feel that way. [...]

Pediatrics data means sh!t to a 2 year old
June 3rd, 2006 · 1 Comment
I’ve always wondered why parents looked like they wanted to kick me in my sunshine seeds when I gave them advice on the pediatric ward. So… now I know. I’ve read more than my fair share of theories and suggestions to use in the third person but when I’m dealing with my son [...]

Watching My Son Grow Up in Snapshots
June 3rd, 2006 · No Comments
I used to think I was bulletproof. I’ve watched more people die in my 20,s than most people do in their entire life. In med school I was the one that was able to run the saw to cut the cadavre’s head into quarters when other people got nauseous.
On the day he was born I [...]
