I received an email this morning because apparently someone had looked me up on a site named Spokeo. When I went to the site and signed up it had every public move that I had made on the internet on any open social network. All of my public Flickr pictures, all of my stumble upon, my MySpace, my Amazon wish list, my favorites from Pandora, all of my Picassa pics. Furthermore it went through my gmail and for everyone on there pulled up every piece of information that was available on the web about them. All of the public photos. The first thing it did was creep me out. Then I started going to every site and making my info private but it’s realy creepy that I was able to instantly track down people that I had not spoken to in years and every move that they had publicly made on these social networks.
I know that the email I got from them meant that someone had looked me up on there and it’s obvious that is there viral strategy. I also know that I spent an hour of my day at least distracted by what my old friends were doing. Check out Spokeo if you haven’t been by the site.
