Exhibit A: You’re Spending your spare time with her-“I know Adobe air have a lot of other applications but for now my extra time is focus on unity 3d, so i dont will get more deeper in air.”
Exhibit B:I love Flash and am attracted to Unity 3D, and think there is plenty of room for both. From Protopinions Flash Vs Unity
Exhibit C: Well you see Flash, you and I have been together over a decade now….Yeah yeah, new girl in town and You forget the 10 years- from Confessions of A Flash Game Developer
Exhibit D: Unity Can Flash Do this please? sure she can do Flashy things- hah- how ironic- I remember when it was Flash that did the Flashy things that you liked. Now you’re asking her to change her ways and learn new tricks. So tell me…where did you experience these new things that you’re wanting to bring back to your relationship with Flash?
Exhibit E: I spent the weekend with Unity 3D and feel like I cheated on Flash- The conscience kicks in here.
Exhibit F: 13 Reasons for Flash developers to Learn Unity- Again with the rationalization and the excuses- this one’s mine- hey I’m only human
Exhibit G: Unity vs Flash Blogosphere Roundup- That’s the final Straw — Now you’re going around to listen to What your friends have to say!!!
Exhibit H: Unity 3D Tutorial Series and Cheat Sheet- CHEAT SHEET- You have the nerve to say CHEAT SHEET at a time like this!?! And showing your Unity to your friends and trying to lead them down the path- that’s just wrong.
When the intial discussion came up in the Blogosphere about Unity being competition for Flash my first and final answer was yes. Instead of thinking of Browser share, installed base and which market each entity serves think of the number of developers and the number of spare hours that they have for learning new technology. If I’m developing Flash Games and it’s time for me to make the leap to learning all the nooks and Crannies of Air and I’ve got Unity 3D particle emitters and physics engine whispering sweet nothings to me—I’m just saying- Every coder has a limit. If I don’t keep an eye on the bleeding edge and know when to start getting that head start learning a technology I lose first strike advantage. A lot of us got to the Flex Market Wayyyy-way -way before anyone was paying any mind to it, built some hot projects, charged premium rates and then watched as the Gigs increasingly expected 20 years of Java, Tomcat, Spring, Struts, SCRUM, XML, DNA, Retinal Scan, Sun Certified Java Web developer Certification etc. On the internet he who spots the future first gets a piece.
A second issue is the passion that I felt when I first discovered Flash back in the Flash 5 days. I would pick Flash over food then. A few weks ago I escaped to my office for my free time with a sandwich and Unity. I emerged feeling like an infidel but the passion sparked. I said to my wife that this is the first time that I have seedn a technology that wowed me to want to come in and play like this since Flash. The possibilities of Unity and the energy of their community reminds me of a community that I joined a few years ago before design patterns, before framework wars when we would bloat your intro page with hot shizzle and unsolicited sound and sparks. Hey!! we had the eighties and MC HAmmer pants and Flash had the Skip Intro and showoff era!
I’ve come across several blog posts that indicate that others have been stepping out from time to time from Flash. We all joke about it similarly because for a long time I didn’t care what you had to say about technology A, B, or WPF- I knew that my Flash Platform could whoop it. Unity is hot!!! I felt guilty downloading the Trial and worse when I switched to a mac mainly to learn Unity and finally bought the license.

True love last forever! I’m joking
Man, they’re all just f* tools to help you express yourself. Right tool for the tight job, thats all. Unity looks great if you want to make online games, flash (with flex, air, catalyst,..) is going more in rich-internet-application direction as far as I understand, so don’t you ever feel sorry if you’ve found great new tool …
BR, Milan
@milan- Good Point! I honestly feel as if Flash has done so much for us along the way that I desperately want it to somehow catch up despite knowing that is not the purpose of the tool. Then there’s the aspect of it that involves having 0 years of experience on a new tool.
